Do

Are you happy with your choices?
J moved to England from Australia & took a punt on following her musical dreams. C moved the other way. An Englishwoman now living & working in Australia, she continues along a winning streak of new friends & new experiences. J signed up for a university course as a mature age student and now works in her new career. S reviews his choices frequently through the lens of "what is best for my family?" and has shared care of his kids for many years. B raised eyebrows in his conservative workplace by requesting part time work in order to spend more time with his family. L teaches in an under resourced school, never complaining about it, while talking constantly of the pleasure and honour of teaching.
These are some everyday heroes. People who think first about the life they would like to lead, and then make decisions to do it. They have a fair bit in common.

They encounter barriers constantly. People saying "you can't," "you shouldn't," "don't." Family and friends, even, may show a lack of support. The hero may doubt the correctness of their decisions under relentless hostile questioning.

But, should they stick to their beliefs, the everyday hero will undoubtedly find other like-minded folk. When with these types, the everyday hero will find themselves swimming in a sea of hope and admiration. An ocean of goodwill and friendship. Surrounded by positive energy.

In quiet times there will be feelings of doubt. Of introspection and fear. Of sadness and despair. Of course.

The everyday hero will stay the course. They will be themselves. I wonder why some do it but some don't. Perhaps it comes back to confidence?
